Huang Yaqiong from Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province was honored with the title of Best Female Athlete of the Year at the 2018 World Badminton Federation (WBF) Annual Awards Ceremony held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province on Dec 10.
Huang won the title over the world No 1 badminton women's singles player Tai Ying-tsi from Taiwan and the world No 1 badminton women's doubles players Yuki Fukushima and Hirota Sayaka from Japan.
In 2018, the Quzhou girl teamed up with Zheng Siwen, an international-caliber player, to win the 2018 WBF World Championships and claimed the mixed doubles title at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games
The pair also claimed mixed doubles titles at the Indonesia Masters, the Malaysia Open, the Japan Open, the Denmark Open and the France Open in the same year.
The badminton player was invited to be the promotion ambassador of Quzhou sports and has contributed a lot to her hometown's reputation and influence in China's sports community.
