Xiamen plays an important role in advancing Hong Kong's development, said Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, chief secretary for Administration of the HKSAR government.
The chief secretary made the remark at a meeting with Zhuang Jiahan, mayor of Xiamen, Fujian province, during his visit to the city from Nov 28 to 29.
He said that both Hong Kong and Xiamen have made remarkable achievements since China's reform and opening-up four decades ago and hopes that the two sides will strengthen their cooperation in various fields.
Zhuang said that Hong Kong is an important trade partner for Xiamen and he expects the two cities will seek further exchanges in the near future.
During his stay in the city, Matthew Cheung Kin-chung also visited the Huaqiao University, where two thirds of Hong Kong students in Fujian study, and Kingtronics (Xiamen) Group, the first group of Hong Kong companies to start operating in Xiamen after China's adoption of reform and opening-up policies.
