An evening gala for the 2018 Shenyang Arts Festival for Students from China and Overseas was held at the city's expo garden on Oct 6, providing those in attendance with a real feast of singing and dancing featuring both Chinese and foreign flavors.

The Shenyang arts festival was held the day before the evening gala, attracting 80 overseas college students from 28 countries. They are now studying in about 10 Chinese universities, including Renmin University of China, Minzu University of China, Jilin University, Harbin Normal University and Shenyang Medical College.

On Oct 6, these students visited the Shenyang Expo Garden, a national 5A scenic spot - the highest-level for tourist attractions in China - and all were impressed by its beautiful scenery.

In addition to the sightseeing trip, the organizers of the arts festival also invited 12 inheritors of the city's intangible cultural heritage - including shadow puppet theatre and charcoal drawing - to demonstrate their skills at the expo garden in a bid to enhance the students' understanding of traditional Chinese culture.

The intangible cultural heritage activity also collected 6,000 lunch meals from the students, and donated them to the Liaoning Charity Federation.

These days, Shenyang in Liaoning province is striving to grow into a regional central city in Northeast Asia, as well as a center of science and innovation, advanced equipment intelligent manufacturing and high-quality public services, local official said.
