The museum covers 33,000 square meters, and holds 35,000 artistic and cultural items, including ancient bronze drums, ethnic clothing, weaved brocade and embroidery, tools for manufacturing and agriculture, folk handicrafts and architectural models.

Permanent exhibitions feature the bronze drum culture, the Guangxi ethnic culture, the Zhuang culture, and ethnic customs of China and the world. There is an open-air botanical garden (1,000 square meters) which grows plants adopted by local people for their daily diet as well as for dyeing clothing.
