The China Agricultural Museum, also known as “the National Agricultural Exhibition Center”, covers a total area of 43 hectares, with a 21,000 sq m exhibition area. It was established to promote agricultural knowledge, demonstrate modern agricultural achievements, and showcase the history of traditional Chinese agriculture.
Construction of the exhibition center was authorized by the State Council in 1958 and the center opened to the public in September 1959. The museum was based on the center and was inaugurated in September 1986. It was listed as a first class national museum in 2012.
There are nearly 50,000 agricultural historic relics, specimens, old books and traditional agricultural tools on display in the museum. Permanent exhibitions feature Chinese agricultural civilization, traditional farming apparatus, and soil specimens from across China. An exhibition committed to dissemination of agricultural knowledge to youngsters is also available, with specially designed programs presented in various media.
