Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and Guangdong Pearl River Delta Intercity Railway Co (GDIR) held a press conference on Nov 26, announcing the beginning of construction on the Xin-Bai-Guang intercity railway.

The Xin-Bai-Guang intercity railway will go from Xintang, Zengcheng district via Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to Guangzhou North Railway Station. The total length of the line will be 77.57 kilometers and trains will pass along the route at a maximum of 160 kilometers per hour. Each terminal in the airport will have a station.

After completion, there will be one intercity train to and from Xintang station to Baiyun Airport every three minutes. The journey will take approximately 20 minutes, with a further seven minutes being needed to travel between the North Railway Station and the airport.

In addition, the new intercity railway will also link to the Guangzhou-Qingyuan intercity railway, the Dongguan-Huizhou intercity railway and the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity railway, offering citizens from surrounding areas better access to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.
