Xiamen is undergoing final preparations for the 2018 Jimei Arles International Photo Festival, set to take place in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province from Nov 23, 2018 to Jan 2, 2019.
The upcoming event will showcase the works of more than 70 artists from home and abroad, including the works on display at the annual summer photography festival Rencontres d'Arles in France, one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
Besides, a series of lectures, performance and introductions to the curators and artists are expected to be staged for professional photographers, serious amateurs and other visitors.
The festival this year will continue keeping a close eye on the photography community in Asian countries and regions. South Korea, as a country of honor for this year's festival, will be invited to show its photographers from three different ages by three exhibitions to Chinese visitors with the aim of advancing cultural exchanges between both countries.
The Jimei Arles Discovery Award and Jimei Arles-Madame Figaro (a renowned international female magazine) Female Photographer Award will be given out at the festival.
Over the past three years, the 2018 Jimei Arles International Photo Festival has attracted 160,000 visitors, making it one of the most renowned events of its kind on the Chinese mainland.
Four years ago, French photographer and curator Sam Stourdzé brought the Rencontres d'Arles to Jimei, a district in the coastal city of Xiamen. It was Rencontres' debut in China and also the first time the festival had been staged outside France.
