Zhuangyuanjie is a cultural and tourist street located in the back of the East Street, Licheng district and is connected with Zhongshan Road in the west. Crowned as the first street of Fujian province, the 500-meter-long Zhuangyuanjie mainly specializes in tourist and cultural handicrafts.
The whole street is divided into three blocks, all having memorial archways built with distinctive local characteristics. The first block includes an indoor pedestrian street and a 700-square-meter civil entertainment square; the second block features two giant carvings on the wall that are related to Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism; the third block is most impressive for the stone archways inscribed with the names of Zhuangyuan, people who come first in the imperial examinations, that are from Quanzhou, which reflects the profound cultural tradition of the city.
In addition, there are many internet cafes and bars in the street for you to hang around.
