Foreign Ministry helps promote Heilongjiang abroad

An event targeting the global promotion of Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing, on Nov 12.

The activity's theme was “China in the New Era: Heilongjiang rides on the road of revitalization and global cooperation”. It was the 16th activity of this kind to be held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, promoting Chinese provinces, cities and autonomous regions to the whole world.

Around 500 people attended the promotion activity, including diplomatic envoys living in China, commercial development advisers, representatives of international organizations from more than 120 countries and regions, as well as representatives of Fortune 500 companies and transnational enterprises.

Wang Yi, minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Heilongjiang is the first place in China to see the sun at dawn. It once had a glorious history, and is welcoming a bright future once more today.

Wang explained that Heilongjiang has a unique geographical advantage as it is located at the core of Northeast Asia, which is of great convenience in building the “China-Russia-Mongolia Economic Corridor” and rebuilding itself as a hub of economic cooperation and trade in Northeast Asia.

He expressed his hopes that more countries and regions could develop and deepen their cooperation with Heilongjiang, riding on the new wave of opportunity in opening-up and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Zhang Qingwei, Party secretary of Heilongjiang province, showed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for holding the promotion activity and extended a warm welcome to global attendees.

Zhang explained that Heilongjiang possesses abundant mature agricultural and animal husbandry processing industries, and is famous for its winter tourism.

Heilongjiang is making efforts to take full advantage of its strengths to promote the province and seek more overseas cooperation opportunities. Zhang expressed his hopes that more foreign companies and capital will start businesses and invest in Heilongjiang.

Wang Wentao, governor of Heilongjiang province, emphasized the importance of revitalizing and upgrading industries the province traditionally held an advantage in during his speech.

Wang said that Heilongjiang has a solid industrial foundation and remains a core part of the Old Northeast China Industrial Base. Industries such as equipment manufacturing, food processing, and energy and chemicals, have great growth potential.

Currently, Heilongjiang is carrying out preferential policies to revitalize and upgrade its industries by pushing forward the commercialization of scientific and research achievements, and the integration of civil and military industries.

In addition to the promotion activity, activities such as an exhibition showing Heilongjiang’s resources and development achievements and a symposium on the province’s revitalization were held during the event.
