Founded in 1993, the Yanji National High-technology Industry Development Area was approved by China's State Council in 2010 as a national-level new area.
It borders the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Russia in the south, Russia in the east and is surrounded by 11 open ports and one foreign public service channel.
There are currently 306 enterprises and business organizations located in the area, one third of which are foreign-founded businesses. The area attracted a total investment of 3.8 billion yuan ($546 million) and contributed 60 percent of industrial income to the city’s total industrial economic volume in 2016.
Since 2017, the Yanji National High-technology Industry Development Area has been making efforts to develop more integrated chains of industry and of logistics with stronger impetus and broader benefits, and thus transform the traditional local industrial economy into an innovation-driven economy.
Six industrial parks and two bases are under construction in the area, including the Ao Dong Industrial Park, Changbai Mountain Biology Technology Park and Li Fu Biology Technology Park.
