People aged 60 and older in northeastern China's Heilongjiang province will be given the right to change their minds within seven days after buying health care products at marketing events.

The new rule was made recently by provincial legislators, or the Provincial People's Congress, to protect the elderly, according to a statement released on Friday by the Congress.

Many of the senior buyers are persuaded to buy items by marketing personnel at such gatherings, which often are organized by companies selling health care products.

The senior buyers can return the products without giving any reasons, according to the statement.

The rule also stipulates that those who provide venues for such marketing activities should verify the sellers' information and inform the seniors attending.

Incentives also will be given to those who report illegal selling of health care products to the authorities.
