In recent years, Jilin has driven its economic growth by developing ice and snow tourism in winter, and resorts promotion and rural tourism in summer. In the first half of 2018, Changchun received 44.98 million tourists, up 14.62 percent year-on-year, and the total tourism revenue grew 18.23 percent, hitting 94.05 billion yuan ($13.68 billion), according to statistics from the Changchun City Tourism Administration.
The steady growth shows that the city's strategy of promoting characteristic and holistic tourism in winter and summer has turned out to be effective.
Summer and Winter Tourism:
On one hand, the winter season between 2017 and 2018 brought Changchun total tourism income of 15.97 billion yuan ($2.32 billion) from 14.62 million tourists, increasing by 16 percent and 19 percent.
On the other hand, the city has intensified its efforts to become a tourist spot for people to escape the heat. A series of summer events were held to pull in the punters, including parades, music festivals and running games. Over 10 summer resort cities are slated to be built across the province by 2020, in an effort to build a popular national summer resort industry by taking full advantage of its ecology.
A heat-escape industrial chain has gradually been formed in all aspects, including food, living, travel, transport, shopping, and entertainment, offering visitors convenience for not only traveling but also living in the province.
Tourist Transportation System:
Changchun has also made great efforts in upgrading its public services and promoting rural tourism to make the industry more prosperous. Jilin will build an elaborate system of road transportation by the end of 2018, ramifying throughout the province and reaching all rural scenic spots above 4A-level.
As planned by the Transportation Bureau and the Tourism Development Committee of Jilin, 12 expressways with a length of 1,476 kilometers will begin construction in 2018. 11 freeway projects, including the one from Ji'an to Tonghua, will be extended to 1,397 kilometers. 140 kilometers of total mileage of highways is set to be added in the province.
Meanwhile, a series of measures will be taken to improve the infrastructure facilities and services along the freeways and highways. For example, over 160 million yuan ($23 million) will be invested into the reconstruction of 19 stations in the province. Also, the service areas in Changchun, Siping, Dongmei and some other cities will be upgraded into small tourist attractions.
