Hohhot sees growing productivity in its core industries

Six major industries of Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, generated 73.11 billion yuan ($10.52 billion) in industrial output value in the first eight months this year, up by 8.1 percent from a year ago, according to government statistics.

The food processing industry produced a output value of 14.83 billion yuan, an increase of 6.3 percent and accounting for 16.3 percent of the total industrial output. The dairy industry, at the core of the food industry, saw its output value increase 5 percent to 11.14 billion yuan, accounting for 12.5 percent of the total.

The output value of electrical energy industry jumped 14.2 percent year-on-year and accounted 29.3 percent to the total, becoming the largest contributor to the city's output value.  

The petrochemical industry, highly concentrated in Hohhot, achieved a value of 15.55 billion yuan in the Jan-Aug period, down 7.5 percent over the same period from previous year.

From January to August, the output value of the pharmaceutical industry continued to maintain steady growth. The industry achieved 8.23 billion yuan in total output value, up 4.9 percent year-on year, and accounting for 9.3 percent of the city's industrial production.

Some 18 new materials enterprises produced a total of 7.24 billion yuan in value, representing a growth of 50.4 percent year-on–year.

Furthermore, the electronic information industry produced a value of 960 million yuan during the period, with its growth rate declining by 19.4 percent.
