Yangjiang: Guangdong Maritime Silk Road Museum
Guangdong Maritime Silk Road Museum [VCG]
The Guangdong Maritime Silk Road Museum in Yangjiang is the first of its kind with the theme of underwater archaeology in the entire world. Its main attraction is the Nanhai No 1 shipwreck. Nanhai No 1 was a Chinese merchant ship that sank off the South China coast during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). The museum features an aquarium with the same water quality, temperature, and environment as the spot where the wreck was discovered. Archaeologists excavate the vessel inside the aquarium, allowing visitors to observe underwater archaeological work in a museum environment.
