More than 150 renowned institutions and companies from the aging industry attended the third Straits Silver Industry Exhibition held in Xiamen, Fujian province, from Oct 26 to 28.
A third of the participating companies came from Taiwan, according to Zeng Qi, vice-chairman of China Silver Industry Association.
The expo this year established five main exhibition areas: smart elderly care, articles for elderly people, popular places to retire, barrier-free life, and traditional Chinese medicine.
Chi Qiuna, director of Fujian Provincial Civil Affairs Department, said that by 2020 the number of Fujian's elderly people is projected to reach 6 million, accounting for 15 percent of the province's population, which means that there will be a potential market worth 55 billion yuan ($7.9 billion) by that year.
