To further promote the macro-ecological development of the province, Guizhou recently launched a plan to reach a target forest area of 10 million mu (6,667 square kilometers) by the spring of next year.
The afforestation work will start from Oct 25, 2018 and finish May 12, 2019, covering the best period of the year for the growth of trees. According to the plan, the reforestation and degraded forest restoration will be finished by the end of February next year. Replanting will take place during March and forest tending will last from April to May.
Each county should research its land resource situation, noting slope farmlands, stony deserts, failed areas of forestation and forestation areas affected by natural disasters.
Based on the land resource situation and the forest coverage goal, various regions of Guizhou will balance afforestation with the development of local industries and environmental protection.
Taking the opportunity to engage in agricultural and industrial structural adjustments, Guizhou is preparing pillar industry projects to allow more participants to take part in the work.
Guizhou will provide better market services and cultivate more companies, groups, social associations and individuals in the market, as well as offering support for any problems they encounter.
To guarantee the quality of the project, Guizhou will make detailed plans of forestry projects including engineering drawings, maps and tree species records.
Guizhou Forestry Department will supervise the manpower organization, project design and approval, seedling preparation, afforestation quality, and management mode of the local government for the duration of the project's implementation.
