Hanjiang Railway Bridge completed

Hanjiang Railway Bridge, one critical section of Menghua Railway, was completed on Oct 18 after three years of effort by China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group and China Railway 11 Bureau Group.

Hanjiang Railway Bridge is a major project of Menghua Railway. It is located in Xiangyang city of Central China's Hubei province, and has a length of 5,915.85 m.

It is a low-pylon cable-stayed bridge, a combination of continuous beam bridge and cable-stayed bridge. It embraces the advantages of both structural styles, such as aesthetics, low cost and diverse spans. Its largest span is 248 m, the longest among such bridge spans in China.

However, the large-scale project experienced many construction difficulties. The engineering team took effective measures to fix the technical troubles and ensure the construction was completed safely on schedule, with high quality.

The project is above the drinking water source of local residents. To protect the water, the construction team disposed of waste water and residue at a specific spot.

The Menghua Railway is China's longest coal line, with a length of 1,814.5 km from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region to Jiangxi province and is the world's longest heavy haul railway. Its expected transport capacity per year is 200 million tons.
