Over 30 overseas students from Hainan University visited the Meishe River Fengxiang Wetland Park in Haikou on Oct 21 for training as voluntary wetland protection instructors.
They will start their service shortly to contribute to Haikou's declaration as an international wetland city.
Being an international wetland city is a high-scale honor in the field of global wetland ecosystem protection. It is assessed by the International Wetland Convention Organization and is therefore a reflection of a city's ecological achievements.
The 13th Conference of the Parties Concerning the Ramsar Convention was held in Dubai on Oct 22, gathering 170 contracting states and worldwide wetland protection organizations.
Each state is required to carry out a nomination every three years. Haikou was selected and put up by the State Forestry Administration together with other five cities in 2017.
