The exit and entry administration department of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone bureau of public security started to support Alipay on Oct 16.
This means that local residents will no longer have to rely on using bank cards at the point of sale (POS) to handle business.
Now, people only need to show their Alipay QR code to payment machines and the process will be completed automatically.
"It's really convenient and we only need to take our phones with us next time we come here," said Feng Xiaoli, a local resident who was applying for a passport.
"The whole payment process used to take three to five minutes but now it only takes several seconds, which has improved our working efficiency and brought convenience for people," said Hou Jie, from the exit and entry administration department.
"We will try to offer more payment services such as Wechat Pay in the future to meet people's needs," added Hou.
