This year's biennale, in addition to inviting artists from Jiangsu province, is also showcasing works from elsewhere, including Shanghai, Fujian and Shandong.

"Compared with the previous biennale, this year's exhibition has reached a higher level and the exhibits are of higher quality," said An Yumin, director of the Yangzhou Chinese Painting Academy.

"I'm glad to see many young artists have participated in the event. Their works are at the forefront of the latest art trends, which our older artists can learn from," An added.

An said the biennale can further boost local artists' passion for creation and contribute to the development of Yangzhou art.
