Noted Chinese and United States experts and scholars gathered at Harvard University Oct 15 to attend a forum on China's economic development and Sino-US relations.
The forum, co-organized by Shanghai municipal government and Fudan University and backed by the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, was held to discuss prospects for Sino-US cooperation.
Zhang Weiwei, head of the China Institute at Fudan University, noted the fact that 14,000 people shuttle between China and the US every day to illustrate the close contacts between the two countries, and concluded that cooperation could benefit the people of both countries.
Zhang also thought that China's diplomatic policies of insisting on peaceful development and seeking win-win cooperation will help promote the normalization of Sino-US relations.
William H. Overholt, a professor at Kennedy School of Government, considered that a cooperative Sino-US relationship is important to the development of the global economy.
Robert Lawrence Kuhn, a US scholar who focuses on China's development, said he expected to show the world the real China through documentary films such as China's Challenges.
He said he thought that the first China International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10 will show China's determination to further expand opening-up and share its achievements with the world, a plan that deserves global attention.
Joseph Nye, former dean of Kennedy School of Government, pointed out that China and the US should strengthen cooperation for the benefits of both sides, and considered that the two countries need to work out how to both compete with each other and still be interdependent.
