The King of Norway Harald V visited Shanghai on Oct 17 and expressed the hope of deepening cooperation with the city in promoting sustainable utilization of oceans.
The king, who visited Shanghai in 1997, was impressed by major changes there over the past two decades, and said there is huge potential for cooperation in economic, trade and marine sectors.
Ying Yong, mayor of Shanghai, welcomed the Norwegian delegation and agreed with the king's view about strengthening mutual cooperation in economic, trade, marine, science and technology, and cultural industries.
Ying said that since the normalization of relations between China and Norway in 2016, the bilateral relationship has maintained good momentum, and he expected it will continue to promote friendly relations between the two countries.
Shanghai is China's largest economic center and largest trading port. Its development over the past several decades is the epitome of achievements made since China's introduction of the reform and opening-up policy in 1978.
The city is now working on developing into five international centers featuring economy, finance, trade, shipping, and scientific and technological innovation.
