Xiamen to host cross-Straits folk art festival

The 2018 Cross-Straits Folk Art Festival is scheduled to take place from Oct 26 to 30 in Xiamen, Fujian province, according to a news conference on Oct 15.

The festival will welcome nearly 490 performers, experts and scholars, 130 of whom will be coming from Taiwan.

Themed on crossover and innovation, the event will hold 23 activities, such as drama performances by non-drama actors, art shows for students and academic salons.

As the intangible cultural heritages of Chunzai flowers, which are handmade hair ornaments, and bamboo weaving are shared by both Fujian and Taiwan residents, craftsmen from both places will show their remarkable skills to students of Jimei Industrial College and Gugong Primary School during the event.

A drama workshop has been established at Shapowei, a gathering area for artists and art lovers in Xiamen, for art troupes from Taichung and Xiamen to train students, local residents and Taiwan people in drama performance. These people will then perform operas popular in Taiwan and Fujian at the festival's opening ceremony Oct 26.
