New plaza tangible evidence of closer ties with Macao

The major structure at Macao Arcade Plaza was topped off on Oct 12. The plaza is one of the first Macao SAR-recommended entrants into Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Industrial Park in Hengqin New Area.

The 1-billion-yuan ($144.6-million) plaza is invested by Macao Similan Group. Construction began in May 2016 east of South Boya Avenue and south of Xiangjiang Road.

Business and office space will be provided for Latin American specialties sales exhibitions, tourism resources promotion, cultural performances, and Sino-Latin American commercial, tourist, and cultural negotiations. Latin American non-governmental commercial agencies are welcome to bolster the plaza as an entity for exchange.  

Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Industrial Park is a significant carrier of the Framework Agreement on Cooperation Between Guangdong & Macao. It has achieved remarkable development and deepened cooperation between Hengqin and its close neighbor.

To date 27 Macao enterprises have signed cooperation agreements with the industrial park, 22 projects have obtained the right for land use, and 18 projects are under construction, according to the Macao Affairs Bureau of Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area. 

These projects cover leisure and tourism, logistics and commerce, education and sci-tech R&D, cultural and creative, healthcare and medicine, and hi-tech industries.

There are now 1,335 Macao-funded enterprises in Hengqin, representing a total investment of $13 billion. The area will prioritize projects that echo industrial park's planning and positioning in land use and supportive facilities and bring in more hi-tech and high-end service projects.
