Shanghai is keen on encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship and developing emerging industries, said Li Qiang, Party secretary of Shanghai, when meeting with Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, on Oct 9.
Li emphasized the importance of innovation to a company's, a city's, and even a country's development, and considered Apple a pioneer in global technological innovation.
He expressed the hope of building closer ties with Apple for the development of the city, and also expected such a partnership will bring about more exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and the United States.
Cook thanked the city's support and services for the company and thought of Shanghai as a charming city full of vigor and innovation.
Cook also expressed his confidence in the city's future development and vowed that Apple will increase its investment in Shanghai to contribute to the city's social and economic development.
