The city of Tongxiang in Zhejiang province will embrace the 5th World Internet Conference (WIC) in November with all preparatory work progressing in good order.
Staff of WIC's management center tested a new smart screen Oct 9 which will be used during the conference to monitor the application of new and advanced technologies such as facial recognition.
Ahead of the event, a group of cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements will be introduced to the host city. Zhang Rui, a staff member from a tech company in Beijing, said her group will apply a smart attendance machine for offices at this year's conference.
Shen Jianhua, director of the convention affairs of WIC, said these technologies are expected to offer improved convenience and efficiency for guests.
The 5th WIC will be held in Wuzhen, a river town in Tongxiang, from Nov 7 to 9. This year, it will be themed on "creating a digital world for mutual trust and collective governance - toward a community with a shared future in cyberspace". The schedule includes 19 sub-forums revolving around five themes: innovation-driven development, universal security, openness and inclusiveness, the pursuit of a better life and common prosperity.
