Shapowei

There are always places in each city to carry the traces of its old times and witness its many changes, and Xiamen's Shapowei (meaning "end of a beach") is such a place.

Senior residents swing back and forth in their rocking chairs, teapots at teahouses hiss steam, and vendors shout about their goods. All of the above scenes can evoke the most primitive sense of belonging deep in each traveler's heart and then he or she may never want to leave.

This is what Xiamen used to be.
