The 2018 World Ocean Week in Xiamen, Fujian province, is set to take place from Nov 2 to 8, according to the city's oceans and fisheries bureau.
The ocean week this year is co-sponsored by China's Ministry of Natural Resources, Xiamen Municipal Government, and office of the United Nations Development Programme in China.
Themed on promoting sustainable marine development, ocean week will focus on integration into China's Belt and Road Initiative and further the host city's maritime cooperation with countries along the maritime silk routes.
Besides a series of forums, a fair on commercializing marine scientific and technological achievements will be held from Nov 2 to 4 as part of the event at Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center, which has an exhibition area of 4,000 square meters and capacity for at least 140 booths.
Ocean culture activities are also expected to be organized during the seven-day event with the aim of attracting more ordinary citizens to pay attention to the healthy development of the ocean, such as a one-day tour of the sea near Xiamen, lectures on ocean culture, and a marine science open day.
The World Ocean Week in Xiamen has been held for 12 years. In 2017, the maritime event attracted more than 2,000 enterprise representatives and 200 officials and scholars from 43 countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road.
