A harmonized and distinctive collection of miniature Zhuhai landscapes has just won the BALI National Landscape Award -- the most prestigious British acknowledgement for landscaping design in the international award category.

The 1,700-sq-m (half-acre) Zhuhai Garden site is portrayed near Yeli Island, Xianglu Beach, and the Fisher Maiden in Xiangzhou. Themed Pearl at Sea and City of Romance, its sinuous bridge stretches 180 m (0.11 miles) to beaches, waters, and trees. Visual angles due to topography enhance the garden.

Six "pearls" along the path are primary attractions for visits and rest. The Fisher Maiden statue and locally featured oyster-shell walls are integrated into the modern Sponge City concept.

To highlight the elegance and purity of pearls and beaches, most of the plants are green and lack showy blossoms, according to designer Wang Xiangrong.

The garden earned the Top-grade Award in the Outdoor Garden (comprehensive) category and distinct honors for Garden Design, Quality Engineering, Plant Furnishing, Architectural Ornaments, and Innovation at the 11th China (Zhengzhou) International Garden Expo.

Although the expo concluded in late May, all the designed gardens from around the country are on permanent display and open to the public. The 12th edition of the expo will open in Nanning of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in December. The new Zhuhai Garden, themed Silver Beach, will feature Chinese Water Pine Forest, Moon in the Sea, and the unique local folk technique Catching Mudfish.
