New school to cultivate international development talent

As one of the earliest universities in China to carry out teaching and research on international development, the University of International Business and Economics unveiled a new school in Beijing on Friday to further cultivate multi-level international development talent for China, developing countries and international organizations.

The School of International Development Cooperation aims to promote non-academic education and training. The school plans to form a comprehensive program of undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies by 2020.

Fang Jun, a deputy director of the Ministry of Education, said at the inauguration the new school is important for both the university and the promotion of China's international development.

"I hope the university can seize the opportunity and give full play to its advantages in economic and trade teaching and research to form a leading major institution on international development in China, which is of great significance to the country."

Jiang Qingzhe, Party chief of UIBE, said the establishment of the new school is a response to the philosophy of building a community with a shared future for mankind, as well as the needs of the international community.

He said the new school will focus on fostering interdisciplinary international development majors, and systematically cultivate multi-level talent for China, developing countries and international organizations.

According to Zhao Zhongxiu, vice-president of UIBE, the new school will teach how trade, investment and finance can promote development, and will start with high-end talent training and innovate institutional mechanisms.

"We will cultivate talents for the Belt and Road Initiative, push forward the construction of international development cooperation disciplines, and promote the establishment of various levels of international development cooperation throughout the country as soon as possible."
