Guizhou province released its work report for the province government at the first session of the 13th People's Congress of Guizhou held on Jan 26, 2018.
GDP of Guizhou reached 315.77 billion yuan ($47.62 billion) in 2017, increasing by 14 percent compared with the year before, which ranked Guizhou first among all the provinces in China in terms of the growth rate for the fourth consecutive year.
Local general public budget revenue reached 36.63 billion yuan, an increase of 16.7 percent. Per capita disposable income of the urban and rural residents in Guizhou reached 29,502 yuan and 12,967 yuan respectively.
In the past five years, big data industry has become one of the driving forces for the development of Guizhou, with the industrial scale surpassing 130 billion yuan – an average annual increase of 66.4 percent.
Meanwhile, the industrial structure was upgraded as modern agriculture, modern services, intelligent manufacturing and tourism played a more and more important role in local development.
Guizhou also strived to protect and improve the ecological environment through planting more trees and building more parks to increase the forest coverage rate to 46.5 percent in the province.
The province's fight against poverty since 2012 also made great progress. More than 383,500 people and 432 villages were lifted out of poverty during the last five years.
In terms of the work plan for 2018, Liu announced the government's expectations and goals to make the regional economy stronger, province environment cleaner and safer, and people's lives better.
It is expected that GDP in 2018 will exceed 550 billion yuan, with an average annual growth rate of 11 percent. Per capita disposable income of the urban and rural residents will reach 45,000 yuan and 21,800 yuan respectively. The investment for research and development will account for 2.2 percent of the GDP and the contribution of science and technology will exceed 65 percent.
Also mentioned in the report, the government will continue its efforts to build Guizhou into "a province with 1,000 parks" for the betterment of the province's ecological environment. The forest coverage rate is expected to exceed 50 percent and the rate of good air quality will remain over 90 percent.
