Day one: Shenyang Palace Museum – Marshal Zhang's Mansion – Shenyang Financial Museum – Laobian Dumpling Restaurant (Zhongjie Street)
Shenyang Palace Museum is one of the two largest remaining historic palace complexes in China. It holds a rich collection of cultural relics from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
Marshal Zhang's Mansion, built in 1914, is the former residence of army marshal Zhang Zuolin and his son Zhang Xueliang, a famous patriot. The house is referred to as Marshal Mansion or Young Marshal Mansion. In 2002, it was officially renamed Marshal Zhang's Mansion Museum and Liaoning Museum of Modern and Contemporary History. A key cultural relic site under state protection, the grounds feature small and large buildings, including one built for Miss Zhao Yidi, Zhang Xueliang's wife.
Shenyang Financial Museum is the city's oldest financial center and was once the private bank of marshal Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang. Built in 1930, it is the largest financial museum in China. Hosting a collection of currencies from around the world, it is also an ideal place to learn the history of currency.
Laobian dumplings are a traditional snack in the Shenyang region dating back more than 180 years.
