A water-saving technology project developed by Baotou-based Tian Long Ecology and NETAFIM, an Israeli company, is expected to be put into operation at the end of this month, Baotou Evening News reported on Sept 20.
The Tian Long project will be the first integrated intelligent water and fertilization system in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, funded by both the regional government and the private sector via a public-private partnership (PPP)
The project has received total investment of 253 million yuan ($37 million), and will take a total of 10 years to be completed.
The new system will provide water and fertilizer for a demonstration base in Jiuyuan district covering an area of 16,200 mu (1,080 hectares) by the time it is completed. It will cover the southern slope of Mount Daqing, the G6 Expressway and 110 National Road. It will adopt Israeli technology which will utilize the internet of things, cloud computing and other information technologies to achieve highly accurate irrigation and fertilization.
After the project is put into operation, it is expected to save more than 21 million yuan in maintenance costs each year.
Construction work on the project started in August 2017. At present, 48 million yuan has been spent on the project, with all the dredging pipes now installed.
NETAFIM is the inventor of drip irrigation technology, the world's largest manufacturer of drip irrigation equipment, and Israel's largest agribusiness company, with a history of more than 40 years.
It now boasts 29 subsidiaries and 17 manufacturing plants worldwide. To date, the company has irrigated over 10 million hectares of land, and produced over 150 billion irrigation systems for more than two million farmers.
