The first Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival concluded in Xincheng district in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Sept 23.
The festival, established specially for farmers, is designated to celebrate the harvest season. It aims to improve the status of farmers and encourage the public to respect their hard work and learn more about what they do.
As one of the highlights of the festival, the agricultural products expo and food expo attracted agriculture departments and companies across the city to exhibit thousands of products, offering visitors a unique chance to taste various fresh foods.
The festival also included calligraphy and photography exhibitions, a micro film contest, and tug-of-war competitions. Folk artists were invited to stage performances, with a Jin Opera among the diverse acts taking part.
The three-day event reflects the high priority that the government places on rural areas and agriculture, as well as its determination to build a thriving agricultural industry.
Fan Zhizhong, an official in Xincheng district said that the festival highlighted the achievements of the city's reform in rural areas.
Throughout history, China has been a major producer of agricultural products, and currently has the largest number of farmers in the world.
