Statistics recently released by the Henan Provincial People's Government show that the rural economy of Sanmenxia maintained a stable growth in the first half of this year, owing to the great efforts the city has made to stimulate sustainable local economic development.
The output value of the city's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisheries industries hit 4.7 billion yuan ($690.2 million) from January to June, increasing 3.3 percent year-on-year. The total added value of the primary industry was 2.61 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 3.1 percent, and the growth rate was the fastest in Henan province.

From the perspective of industrial structure, agriculture plays a dominant role in the city's economic development.
To promote the growth of animal husbandry, the government has worked actively to adjust the industrial structure to develop standardized scale farming and fine processing. The total output of meat came to 62,000 metric tons with an increase of 6 percent, ranking first in Henan. The output of pork and eggs was 43,000 and 29,000 metric tons, an increase of 7.9 percent and 6.9 percent. Milk production was 21,000 metric tons, a drop of 8.2 percent.
Thanks to the effective poverty alleviation projects and preferential policies of the government, Sanemnxia's per capita disposable income for rural residents stood at 5,176 yuan, a year-on-year rise of 9.2 percent, 0.7 percent higher than that of urban residents.
In order to build a moderately prosperous society, the city plans to establish a sound policy-related insurance system for agriculture to get rid of operational risks. It will also move to boost the development of agricultural product processing, and promote the cooperative model to provide more training for farmers.
