A total of 46 sets of intelligent bus shelters have made their debut in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, part of a series of measures by the local government to offer better transport services.

Each bus shelter is over 10 meters high and has high-tech equipment including LED billboards, high-definition (HD) cameras and screens displaying bus lines.

Two of the intelligent bus shelters reach the length of 18 meters, which were formed by combining two nine-meter shelters, in order to meet the demand of high passenger flow. The other 44 platforms are 12 meters in length.

Two liquefied crystal display (LCD) screens are set at the two ends of each shelter, displaying various types of information for the bus lines.

"If you take a close look at the screen, you will find the patterns of buses are moving on the map. Also, the patterns are in different color," said a staff member.

The patterns of buses on the map stand for the current location of the buses and their colors have different meanings, for example, green means the bus still has vacant seats or not too many people are on the bus while red means the bus is crowded.

LED billboards will also display information including promotion videos, announcements and city news.

It is hoped that the intelligent bus shelters will contribute to the improvement of public transportation services in Yangzhou and attract more people to choose buses.
