Xiamen, a coastal city in east China's Fujian province, welcomed more than 903,000 tourists at home and abroad during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Sept 22 to 24, according to the local tourism authority.
Statistics from the Xiamen Municipal Tourism Development Commission showed that a total of 763 million yuan ($111 million) was generated by the local tourism industry during the period.
According to Ctrip, a supplier of travel services in China, Xiamen is one of the most popular tourism destinations in China during the three-day holiday.
The Chinese city's four renowned tourist attractions, namely, Gulangyu island, Hulishan Fortress, Turtle Garden and Tong'an Film Studios, entertained 50,000 tourists during the first day of the holiday, and the occupancy rate of the city's restaurants and hotels exceeded 70 percent.
Many activities were held at Xiamen's scenic spots to celebrate the festival, which attracted many tourists from neighboring cities.
Moreover, as this year's Mid-Autumn Festival fell on the same day as the first Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival, attractions in rural areas, such as Aotou fishing village and Zhuba farm, launched related activities to celebrate the special festival.
