Pingtan saw a large influx of tourists during the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, receiving a total of 76,866 visitors with tourism income reaching 73.93 million yuan ($10.8 million).
"I've long heard about the splendid natural scenery in Pingtan, so I took my family to visit here during the holiday. The sea is very beautiful and the stone houses are very distinctive," said Cai Junhong from Quanzhou, Fujian province, who visited Pingtan for the first time.

Various activities carried out at scenic spots in Pingtan also contributed significantly to the tourist flow.
"Haitan Ancient City organized a series of activities to promote traditional Chinese culture and has attracted about 36,000 visitors during the holiday," said a local official.
Aoqian Taiwan Town, a scenic area featuring Taiwan distinctive goods, held exhibitions on Taiwan folk crafts and staged traditional activities such as guessing riddles and calligraphy.
In recent years, Pingtan has been working on establishing a comfortable, safe and ordered tourist environment. "The environment of its scenic areas is very good and the roads are clean," said visitor Chen Xinhai.
