A Chinese culture promotion event named "Arts Jiangnan" kicked off in Songjiang district, Shanghai on Sept 19.
Co-organized by the municipal information office, Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles and local media, the event is aimed at presenting the charm of Jiangnan culture to the rest of the world.
Jiangnan, south of the Yangtze River, has long been regarded as one of the most prosperous regions in China due to its wealth in natural resources and high socioeconomic development.
More than 30 representatives from Shanghai-based consulates and multinationals attended the event, where they enjoyed various Jiangnan-featured performances such as kunqu opera, pingtan (story-telling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect), and qin (a seven-stringed plucked instrument in China), and tasted delicious local delicacies.
The event will start an overseas tour in late September, with the first stop being Singapore, where intangible cultural heritages from the Yangtze River Delta region will be displayed from Sept 22 to Oct 14.
