The first overseas oilfield project of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) as an operator was officially completed after a handover ceremony held by CNOOC Southeast Asia Limited and Pertamina on the SES block.

Before the ceremony, the Indonesian government confirmed that CNOOC Southeast Asia had already provided it with all files, assets and equipment of the SES block.

In 2002, CNOOC bought Repsol's Indonesian assets, and then took charge of the SES block, which gave CNOOC its first experience in overseas oilfield operation and made it once the biggest crude oil producer in Indonesia.

Being SES block's oilfield operator for almost two decades, CNOOC has produced 338 million barrels of oil equivalent including 312 million barrels of crude oil, and sold over 4.36 billion cu m of gas, which has made a great contribution to local economic development and created considerable value for the government of Indonesia, CNOOC's partners and the company itself.

SES block is located in the Java seas, southeast Sumatra, with a water depth of 20 to 40 meters and an operation area of 5,851 sq km.
