Home of lotus root promoted in Moscow

Yangzhou's Baoying county held a promotion fair for its featured agriculture during the 27th World Food Moscow, that commenced in the capital city of Russia on Sept 17.

As the most influential exhibition for the food industry in Russia and Eastern Europe, this year's World Food Moscow gathered many food related products from countries including Russia, China and Kazakhstan.

Baoying county is the home of lotus root with annual output of lotus root products reaching nearly 2 billion yuan ($292.3 billion).

Local food such as lotus root starch, organic rice and stuffed sweet lotus root with glutinous rice were displayed during the fair.

"Our products used to be only sold to Eastern Asia countries such as Japan and South Korea. We hope to pave the way to enter the markets of Russia and Eastern Europe through this promotion fair," said Wu Yongsheng, an agricultural official from Baoying county.

During the World Food Moscow, the Baoying delegation also visited Russian companies involved in the food industry to further promote the county's agricultural products.
