GPGC rapidly restores power after Mangkhut's devastation

Over 70 percent of users out of 4.45 million households affected by the super typhoon Mangkhut in South China's Guangdong province had their power restored on Sept 17 after losing it to the storm the day before.

The rapid power restoration is attributed to the great efforts of Guangdong Power Grid Company (GPGC), a branch of China Southern Power Grid.

High-tech equipment was used by GPGC to inspect damage and restore power.

"Today, we are going to arrange 20 unmanned aerial vehicles and three helicopters above several cities including Yangjiang, Jiangmen, Zhuhai and Huizhou, to survey damage caused by Mangkhut," said a leader of an aircraft patrol operation center of GPGC.

An emergency communication and command vehicle, innovated by Zhaoqing Power Supply Bureau, a branch of GPGC, also guaranteed efficient restoration with its multiple signal transmission technology. In addition, a metering automation system helped the restoration work by providing users' power repair information for front-line emergency workers.

Apart from ensuring the power supply in Guangdong province, GPGC also cooperated with Companhia de Electricidade de Macau, an electricity company in Macau, to guarantee power in the special administration region.

GPGC's next step is to continue improving damage prevention measures to minimize the effects of Mangkhut to local power system.
