Eight students from Taiwan studying at colleges and universities in Ningbo were awarded the special scholarship for Taiwan students at the 2018 Ningbo-Taiwan Educational Cooperation Conference in the city on Sept 17.
This is the first time that Taiwan students in Ningbo have been awarded the scholarship since the scholarship was established by the local government in the first half of the year.
The scholarship, amounting from 6,000 ($874.41) to 30,000 yuan, is designed to encourage Taiwan students to pursue higher education and conduct exchanges in Ningbo, and further deepen cross-straits educational cooperation.
The conference also witnessed the signing of 13 educational cooperation agreements between schools of higher learning in Ningbo and Taiwan, which involves mutual visits by cross-Straits teachers and students, student exchanges and academic exchanges.
Meanwhile, a college student exchange project was launched at the conference, according to which 50 Ningbo and Taiwan college students will be selected every year from 2019 to spend five days in other parts of the nation to learn about Chinese culture and national development.
The conference marked the opening of the 2018 Ningbo-Taiwan Educational Cooperation Event in the city, an important part of the 2018 Zhejiang-Taiwan Cooperation Week, which lasts for three days and sees many exchange activities among cross-Straits scholars and schools.
