The Shanghai Brain Science and Brain-Inspired Research Center has served as a significant driving force for Shanghai's scientific and technological development since opening in May, according to neuroscientist and deputy head of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch, Zhang Xu.
The brain science and brain-inspired intelligence industry is entering a golden era in China thanks to improved research capacity, rising social development demand, industrial upgrading, and stronger government and public support.
Driven by this growth, the research center will integrate technological resources and strengthen its research in the brain science and brain-inspired intelligence industry, Zhang added.
According to official statistics, the industry in Shanghai receives a total investment of more than 1 billion yuan ($144.9 million) from government and public organizations annually.
