Changsha enterprises make splash in African market

With the continued promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, Changsha enterprises, represented by Sany Group, Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., and Sunward Intelligent Equipment Group, have landed in Africa.

Sany's overseas sales have exceeded 10 billion yuan ($145.72 million) every year since 2013. In the first half of this year, Sany Group's overseas sales exceeded 7 billion yuan, an increase of nearly 20 percent year-on-year and ranking first among China's construction machinery enterprises that export to Africa.

To date, Sany's total equipment sales to Africa have exceeded 10 billion yuan, with primary products including cranes, excavators, road rollers, energy machinery, port machinery, etc. It has also participated in many projects in Africa, such as the Adama wind power project in Ethiopia, the Great Mosque of Algiers project in Algeria, and the construction of venues for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, providing excellent product quality and post-sales service.

Sany has strengthened its cooperation with large state-owned enterprises and established strategic cooperative relations with overseas partners to create a new model for exports. On June 27, 2016, it signed an agreement to operate the Adama - Hunan Machinery Equipment Manufacturing Park along with other enterprises from China and Ethiopia. The manufacturing park has attracted 18 Changsha enterprises and is expected to become a modern equipment manufacturing park after its completion in 2020. It will be dominated by four industrial sectors, namely construction machinery, energy and electric power, automobiles and parts, and general equipment.

Sany has also cooperated with the China-Africa Development Fund to develop advanced industrial manufacturing, clean energy and electricity, large infrastructure projects, and modern construction projects in Algeria, Tunisia, Ethiopia, and South Africa.

In addition, high-quality equipment from Zoomlion and Sunward Intelligent has also successfully entered Africa for many key projects. With the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation being held, cooperation between the two parties is expected to continue to improve.
