Zhanjiang will redouble its efforts to clean up organized crime in a three-year campaign, with up to 500,000 yuan ($72,955) being offered to residents that tip off the police or assist in tracking down criminals, according to the recently issued reward guidelines.
The focus of the campaign will be on shutting down local crime networks and their protective apparatus, as gangs and organized crime are often rife with corruption. Many low-level gang members often have special relationships with corrupt officials.
Residents that come forward with information on crimes and help the police identify criminal gang members will be rewarded 30,000 to 50,000 yuan. The reward will be 10,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan if they help to identify the accomplices.
A reward of 50,000 yuan will be given to citizens who denounce local officials that take bribes or offer protection to gangsters.
Informants will be awarded 20,000 yuan if their tip-off results in the arrest of a wanted gang organizer, or 10,000 yuan if it results in the arrest of a chief gang member.
While carrying out the campaign, relevant public security authorities and anti-corruption watchdogs are urged to pay close attention to relevant facts, evidence, procedures, and laws. Each case will be handled on the basis of irrefutable evidence.
