Sanmenxia medics to support medical care in Eritrea

A group of specialist doctors from Henan province will offer one-year medical care support to Eritrea, and a farewell party  was held in Sanmenxia on Sept 6 to see them off.

The medics, 18 of them, mainly from the Sanmenxia Central Hospital, the Yellow River Sanmenxia Hospital and the Xinyang Central Hospital, were highly praised by the Eritrean government. 

Located on the shore of the Red Sea at an altitude of 2,500 meters, Eritrea is one of the poorest nations in the world with a population of 3.5 million. The country’s is not well equipped with proper health systems and medical resources are scarce with as few as 30 doctors.

Starting from 1997, the Chinese healthcare team made great efforts to promote the medical and health services in Eritrea, and has played an important role in the cooperation between the two countries over the past 20 years. With the support of Chinese healthcare workers, Eritrea will devote itself to promoting the development of the basic healthcare.
