Dalian Medical University was initially founded in 1947 in Dalian, Northeast China’s Liaoning province. Featuring medical education, the university also focuses on multidisciplinary development, offering programs like science, engineering, management, art, law and philosophy.
The university occupies an area of 1.51 million square meters with a floor area of 532,000 square meters. Its library holds 2.23 million volumes and it has so far invested 360 million yuan ($52.64 million) in educational instruments and research equipment.
There are about 1,300 faculty members and 13,200 full-time students at the university. The number of overseas students is about 1,100. They study at 21 colleges or have internships at 18 affiliated hospitals of the university.
The university is particularly strong in international education and is among the top 100 Chinese universities in teaching international students. It's one of the universities participating in the Chinese Government Scholarship and the “Silk Road” Scholarship. The university’s medical degrees are recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Overseas students from about 110 countries and areas have studied the university; and it has established ties with over 100 universities and institutes in 30 countries, including the United States, Germany, France, Australia, Russia and Japan. For example, the cooperative program for the Master of Public Health was jointly launched by Dalian Medical University and Benedictine University.
The university is a member of the Universities Alliance of the New Silk Road (UANSR).
