Track laying work for the 69.67-km stretch of metro line 1 commenced in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Aug 30.
The line includes an underground section and an elevated stretch.
“We plan to establish three track laying bases to push forward the laying of tracks for the metro rail network,” said Zhang Weihua, the chief engineer of the project.
Zhang noted that the track laying work for the underground section will be finished by the end of April 2019 while the elevated section will be completed in July.
According to the government, construction is on schedule, and the metro line will start operation in December 2019.
