The canteen of the Slender West Lake campus of Yangzhou University has been renovated, just in time for students returning for the new semester.
The first floor of the canteen has an industrial style, with bronze as its main color and bamboo for its ceiling.
Several different dining areas have been built to provide a relaxing and comfortable environment for students. Walls have been decorated with watercolor paintings showcasing Yangzhou landscapes such as Slender West Lake and Wenchang Pavilion.
The second floor of the canteen features a modern style and white as its main color. Several bookshelves have been added for students and staff members.
Apart from upgrading its environment, the variety of dishes available in the canteen has also been expanded, including shengjianbao, or fried stuffed bun, and Western-style desserts.
"Students nowadays are no longer satisfied with eating their fill in the canteen, they want to have a good dining environment," said a staff member from the canteen.
The staff member added that before renovation, the school paid on-site visits to several universities in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, to come up with ideas and hired a professional design company to design the layout.
"The number of seats in the canteen has increased. More importantly, its environment and the taste of dishes have been upgraded. They really fit the needs of our students," said Cui Yuting, a third-year student.
The canteen is also open to the public, and dishes can be paid for by using Alipay or Wechat Pay in the canteen.
